The intervention was <\/span>minimal. The walls, the joinery and <\/span>the original layout were kept, and the <\/span>work started from what was already <\/span>there rather than rebuilding. <\/span>Working with what exists, imposing <\/span>nothing new, is where the project <\/span>began.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Boucheruit, from <\/span>boucherouite<\/span><\/em><\/strong>.<\/strong> Rugs knotted in wool, <\/span>cotton and salvaged textiles, with no <\/span>inherited palette and no pattern to <\/span>follow: colour is decided in the <\/span>making, according to whatever material <\/span>is at hand. The composition <\/span>proceeds without a plan \u2014blocks that <\/span>collide, interrupted rhythms, a <\/span>symmetry never sought\u2014 and that <\/span>spontaneity places them close to <\/span>contemporary abstraction. The space is <\/span>organised on the same principle.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The pieces do not cover the floor entirely. They are shown on the floor and on the wall, and the selection rotates. Hung, a rug reads as a pictorial surface: the drawing resolves, the colour gains weight, the composition appears whole. On the floor it becomes an object again, with its scale and its texture. Light and placement alter all three, and seeing them installed allows them to be compared under those conditions.<\/p>\n

Each Amazigh tribe weaves with its own repertoire of materials, motifs and colour. Pieces from different traditions coexist here \u2014Beni Ouarain<\/a><\/strong>, Boujad<\/a><\/strong>, Boucherouite<\/a><\/strong>, Azilal<\/a><\/strong>\u2014 both vintage and newly woven. Together, each one defines the others more clearly.<\/p>\n
